Expert Meeting on Tsunami Sources in the Caribbean

Jorge Macías, researcher of DT-GEO, recently participated in a key Expert Meeting organized by the ICG/CARIBE-EWS of UNESCO. MedGU 2024: Award-Winning Research

At the MedGU 2024 held in Barcelona, researcher Alejandro González from the University of Málaga received the Best Paper Award for his work on “Meteo-HySEA: Advanced GPU-Accelerated HPC Code for Simulating Meteotsunamis.” The conference highlighted DT-GEO’s contributions to urgent computing and early warning systems for geohazards, with presentations on topics ranging from tsunami risk assessments to integrating HPC and AI for earthquake response.

Held at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, this year’s event spotlights innovative tools and methodologies driving scientific breakthroughs, from data lakes and digital twins to quality software and Open Science adoption. Among the noteworthy presentations was the DT-GEO project, a key player in using Digital Twin technology to improve natural hazard forecasting and disaster resilience.
