A two-year postdoctoral position is now open, focusing on atmospheric dispersal modelling and high-performance computing (HPC). This role is integral to the DT-GEO project, a pioneering initiative aimed at creating a digital twin for geophysical extremes. With an emphasis on collaborative research and cutting-edge technology, this position offers a unique chance to contribute to groundbreaking work in volcanic gas forecasting and hazard assessment. Your Role

As a postdoc, you’ll be instrumental in creating innovative numerical tools and solutions to enhance the forecasting of volcanic gas pollution during eruptions. You’ll be diving deep into HPC resources and managing large datasets of recent eruptions in Iceland.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Meteorology, Informatics, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in English and experience in Python, Fortran, and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with parallel computing (MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC) and numerical modelling of atmospheric dispersal.
  • Bonus: Experience with machine learning libraries like TensorFlow.
