Join the BSC Team as a Software Developer for the DT-GEO Project

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) is seeking a talented and motivated Software Developer to join the DT-GEO Project as part of the Workflows and Distributed Computing group. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research and development in geophysical modeling and disaster prediction.

BSC is Spain’s leading supercomputing center, home to MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. As a research and development hub, BSC’s mission is to drive scientific progress through computing technologies. The DT-GEO Project, one of the major initiatives at BSC, focuses on developing a digital twin for geophysical extremes such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, leveraging high-performance computing (HPC) to enhance disaster prediction and mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

As a Software Developer for the DT-GEO Project, you will:

  • Develop extensions to the workflow provenance system of COMPSs, enabling better metadata generation for containerized tasks and applications.
  • Enhance COMPSs’ Reproducibility Service to facilitate re-execution of applications that utilize containers.
  • Integrate services with eFlows4HPC, such as Workflow Registry, Software Catalog, and Container Image Creation, to streamline application generation and reexecution.
  • Work closely with researchers to improve workflows related to geophysical modeling and analysis.
  • Contribute to COMPSs user manual and document the newly developed features.
  • Play a key role in advancing the goals of the DT-GEO Project.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Singularity.
  • Strong knowledge of HPC and Distributed Computing environments.
  • Proficiency in Python and Java programming.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in software development, particularly in runtime systems and system software.

Additional Skills (Valued)

  • Experience with metadata standards and Semantic Web technologies.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written), with other European languages being a plus.
